How to Wait on God's Promises

He will swallow up death forever, And the Lord God will wipe away tears from all faces; The rebuke of His people He will take away from all the earth; For the Lord has spoken. And it will be said in that day: “Behold, this is our God; We have waited for Him, and He will save us. This is the Lord; We have waited for Him; We will be glad and rejoice in His salvation (Isaiah 25:9 nkj)

If we wait on Yahuah, He will surely save us. Waiting on Him will renew our joy in His salvation.

I have had it on my heart for days, to encourage you to wait on the LORD regarding His promises to you. This morning I finally got the courage to write. I haven’t written in months, and I knew once I started back, I would not be able to stop. The LORD has been waiting on me and I finally submit my gift to Him.

I thought for sure our anchor verse would be Psalm 27:14, and though it is still necessary; the LORD has drawn my attention to its cross reference. As I read Isaiah 25:9 tears fill my eyes, and I am emotional. I am reminded the LORD is my God, He chose me, and I did not choose Him. He is faithful to perform every good work that He Himself has spoken; and so, it is with you.

John 6:44 says, "No one can come to Me unless the Father who sent Me draws him; and I will raise him up at the last day."

He chose you to be His child. He chose to draw you nigh unto Himself. He chose to speak every personal promise and blessing over your life, whether you have yet to see it or not; know He is not a God whose hand is slack. He watches over His word to see it performed.

So, wait on YAHUAH your Elohim.

I know what you are thinking. Waiting is easier said than done, I know. I am not writing this to tell you your promise is around the corner or that breakthrough is on the way. I don’t know what YAH has promised you or how long the process takes for you to receive that. So, I am sorry if you are looking for a prophecy to the fulfillment of what He has said. I cannot give you that, only Yah can uphold His promises and make them manifest.

I came to encourage you in your waiting.

Wait on the LORD; Be of good courage, And He shall strengthen your heart; Wait, I say, on the LORD! (Psalm 28:14 nkj)

Something Abba has been teaching me is it does not help to tell someone they should do something if I am not telling them how to do it. I can’t tell you to wait on the LORD and expect that you already know how to do that so, I will tell you.

Spoiler Alert: I am still figuring that out myself; but I will share with you the portion I have so far, and we will trust Yah together to fill in the gaps.

p.s. As I wrote this He filled in the gaps. I pray He does the same as you read!

What does it look like when we wait on Yah?

To wait on Yah means to surrender and submit to His will and His way; we must do both. To do one without the other can become dangerous to our faith, a stumbling block if you will.

To Surrender = To Acknowledge

To Submit = To Agree

When we surrender, we put up our hands to Yah’s sovereignty. We can acknowledge His ways are not our ways and His thoughts are not our thoughts. This typically happens when things began to take longer than we thought, hoped, or believed they would.  We simply give up and throw in the towel. When not partnered with a state of submission we can actually throw away the promises He has given us.

This looks like, “I once believed You Abba, but nothing has changed. I don’t think you want this for me anymore. Even if you did it is taking entirely too long, and I can’t bear to wait any longer. You can have this promise back!”

When we submit, we give ourselves to Yah’s process. We agree with the truth that we can do nothing without Yah; we need Him in all things and for all things. This typically happens after we have tried many tricks and schemes in our own strength and are not experiencing improvement, achievement, growth of any kind in a particular area. We begin to yield to His instructions, steps, and requirements – the process He has for us to receive His promises.

When not partnered with a state of surrender this can lead to us taking the heart posture of using Yah to gain and achieve what He promised us because we believe we have to manipulate Him to receive it, in the end we turn our back on Him for that promise.

This looks like, “Alright, this is taking too long. I keep trying everything I know to get this thing, but nothing is working. I know God has the answers. I will do what He tells me to, how He tells me even though I don’t want to and things will happen quicker for me.”

When we do this Yah is likely to give us over to our desires. We can easily become lead by our flesh believing we are following Him, but we are actually headed down a path of destruction. He will allow us to have what we want if we desire it more than we desire Him. So, the ‘blessing’ we receive ends up being a curse and we say things like, “Look at what God did!” and He actually had no part in it. He will give us what we want and leave us in return; because of an infatuation with the promise it may become impossible for us to realize His absence.

The presence of a “blessing” does not equate to the presence of Yah.

We must surrender and submit, or the entire cookie can crumble. This looks like us acknowledging Yah is sovereign and that He knows what is best for us. He knows what we need, when we need it, and the steps we need to take to get to that place.

We say yes to His will, His way, and His process. We know and walk in the truth that He is faithful to fulfill every promise, no matter how long it takes, because He is true to Himself.

This looks like, “Adonai, this is taking a long time, but I know You are sovereign. If I don’t have this thing yet surely it is because I am not yet ready. I trust you and I trust your timing; I believe, help my unbelief. My heart is starting to weigh at the wait. I know You are pruning me, for Your glory. Help me to be obedient to Your instructions and complete this process that I may receive all you have for me and that my life would be worship unto You.”

What does it mean to wait on Yah?

To wait on Yah means to trust His timing in all things and to not rush His blessings. To yield to His Spirit and to not go in our own strength. To see Him in every detail and every ‘delay’. To know He is faithful no matter what things look like. He is always working things together for our good and His glory. To agree that He knows what we need, when we need it, and what we need to endure as we travel the road to get to that place.

How do we wait on Yah?

We wait on Yah by surrendering to His sovereignty and submitting our desires to Him. (all scriptures are pasted below)

By acknowledging:

  • Yah’s sovereignty. Deut. 10:17 nkj
  • Our disappointments and heartache concerning His promises. Psalm 55:22 nkj
  • Our own resistance. 1 John 1:9 nkj
  • Yah’s thoughts are not our thoughts. Isaiah 55:8 nkj
  • Yah’s ways are not our ways. Isaiah 55:8 nkj
  • No person who has ever received a promise from Yah escaped the waiting/process period. Read about Jacob, Joseph, Moses, Israel, Esther, Hannah, David, Elizabeth, the disciples, etc.

By agreeing:

  • Yah’s promises are yes and Amen. 2 Cor. 1:20 bsb
  • Yah is not a man that He should lie or repent. Num. 23:19 nkj
  • All promises require pruning before we receive them. Psalm 12:6 amp
  • Yah remains faithful even when we remain faithless. 2 Tim. 2:13 nkj
  • Yah makes no mistakes. 2 Sam. 22:31 nkj
  • Yah is able and willing. 2 Cor. 9:8 esv

Everything we need is in Yah’s written Word. We have a perfect example of what it looks like to surrender and submit to Yahuah and His name is Yahushua (Jesus). He lived a perfect and blameless life.

For He made Him who knew no sin to be sin for us, that we might become the righteousness of God in Him. (2 Corinthians 5:21 nkj)

Now we cannot be perfect and blameless like Yahushua BUT we can be like Him. We can take on His image and look like Him in the eyes of our Abba by surrendering and submitting to His commands in His Word.

The Word of God, which is Yahushua, is sharper than any two-edged sword and it transforms. What better way to acknowledge and agree with Yah than allowing the Word Himself to change you and morph you into an image that is incorruptible? As we read and yield to the Word of Yah, it becomes easier to wait because it becomes our desire to wait.

But we all, with unveiled face, beholding as in a mirror the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into the same image from glory to glory, just as by the Spirit of the Lord. (2 Corinthians 3:18 nkj)

Why should we wait on Yah?

When we wait on Yah to correct way, mountains begin to move, and chains begin to break. When we wait on Yah our relationship with Him grows by leaps and bounds. He begins to become our anchor in a new place, our trust in Him deepens and our love for Him grows.

As we wait, we begin to see the beauty in the waiting season, we see the beauty in the pruning process. We begin to acknowledge it was good we did not get what we wanted when we wanted it. We begin to agree that pruning was and still is necessary.

It gets easier as time goes on. It doesn’t necessarily get easier to wait, it can all still hurt (and annoy) the same as it did the first time. What gets easier is surrendering and submitting during the process. It gets a little easier to see the beauty in the waiting. It gets easier to trust Yah and stand on His word without wavering.

As former promises are fulfilled, new ones are given. The waiting never stops, and it is a process we must become familiar with. Not familiar as in thinking there is a blueprint and a formula that we can follow every time to speed things up and get what we want. But familiar in a way that something that once swept us off our feet, now makes our roots grow deeper in Christ because we can instantly see Him calling us to trust in Him and obey His commands.

Waiting is beautiful to our Abba; when we wait on Him, He delights in us. He sends His Word and Spirit to encourage us, to strengthen us, and to carry us through. I also believe, the more we wait the more we can appreciate Yah’s promises when they come to pass.

Prayer

I pray this has encouraged you and strengthen you in your faith. I pray it has brought clarity and understanding of how we should wait on Yahuah and why we should wait on Him.

Abba, I pray that you would have translated every word as it needed to be spoken to the individual heart. I pray that Your daughters would be able to hear You and what You are saying to them. I pray that You have been glorified and that hearts have been drawn closer to You and encouraged to continue waiting on Your promises. In Yahushua’s Name, Amen.

Meditation

Take time to meditate and think over the verses that stuck out to you during your reading. Pray to the Father, inquire of what was for you. Repent where He leads if He leads. Ask Him how you can be faithful in waiting on His promises. Trust, know, and believe He will keep you in your honesty and vulnerability with Him. Obey His every command.
