Be Content In All Things

I used to be confused about what Matthew 6:33 meant. I would use the verse to make myself believe that one day Yah would bless me with great riches if I kept Him first. Reading this verse in context changed my perspective about what I really should be expecting from the Father.

Matthew 6:33 says, “But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you.”

When the Messiah says this, He is encouraging those listening to not worry about their lives. What they will eat, drink, or wear. Yahuah knows that we have need for all these things and He will provide them generously.

As I read Matthew 6:25:34, I truly understand what Yahushua is saying. This was never a promise that if you seek the Kingdom of God first , you will get a bunch of things but it is specifically talking about food, drink, and clothes.

Many times before I myself have taken this verse out of context and applied it as if I would seek Yahs kingdom first, He will bless me tremendously with all my hearts desires. And while that may be true that’s not what the verse says.

Today, I want to talk about contentment and being thankful for what we have, even when it is not much.

I myself am going through a difficult time when it comes to resources but I have everything I need. What I don’t have is everything I want and to me this is uncomfortable and confusing.

I don’t understand why I can’t enjoy a date night with my husband without drawing our bank negative. Or why I can’t get my hair and nails done when I make so much money. Why I can’t buy something nice for myself every now and then. Why does all our money go to bills and food. It just seems unfair.

The truth is that I shouldn’t complain. Instead I should be grateful. Why? Because I have enough. Because I have everything I need. I have shelter, food, clothing, and everything needed to live a comfortable and happy life. Just because I don’t have what I want doesn’t mean I’m not blessed. And that’s hard to comprehend sometimes. So let’s apply scripture to it.

1 Timothy 6:6-8 says “But godliness with contentment is great gain, for we brought nothing into the world, and we cannot take anything out of the world. But if we have food and clothing, with these we will be content.”

A life centered around living for Christ and being satisfied with His provision is what truly matters. Nothing that we store up in this world can be taken with us, so when we have what seems like the bare minimum - even with that we should be content.

To be content means to be in a state of peace or happiness. As believers we should be content no matter our earthy circumstances because we know there is something greater after this life. We have been given the gift of eternal life and that is where our true joy comes from. We shouldn’t be concerned with getting things here or storing up earthly treasures. Instead we should be focused on living a godly life and storing up our treasures in heaven.

Don’t misunderstand my message. I’m not saying it’s Yah’s plan for us to be broke or live paycheck to paycheck. I’m not saying it’s holy to be poor. I’m not saying it’s bad or evil to have an abundance of money.

I just know that in this economy not everyone is swimming in cash. And there are some people who need encouragement to be thankful in a season where they have just enough to get by. That’s exactly what this is. Encouragement. So you know that even in times like this Yah is still with you and He is careful to provide all your needs.

In Philippians 4, Paul speaks about learning to be content in every situation he is in. No matter whether he had plenty or little, whether he was hungry or full - He knows how to be satisfied with either. It should be the same with us. No matter our circumstances we should be satisfied and learn to thank Yah in all seasons of life.

And sometimes Yah may be keeping us in a state of only having our needs for the benefit of our soul. Sometimes giving us what we want can set us up for failure and misery.

Proverbs 28:6 says “Better is a poor man who walks in his integrity than a rich man who is crooked in his ways.”

It is better to have less and live a life dedicated to Yah than to have great riches and fall by the way of tricks and schemes. Don’t despise your season of having less. Sometimes there is a greater purpose. Instead, count it all joy that you have your basic needs met because some people don’t even have that.

In your season of less, be content. Be thankful. Handle it with integrity. Don’t despise having just enough. See it as a blessing because things could be far worse.

I had to remind my husband the other day that we have so many things to be thankful for and that we shouldn’t focus on what we don’t have. Instead we should focus on the things we do have. A beautiful home, two cars, two great jobs, a healthy dog, healthy bodies, a fridge full of food and more. Just because we don’t have everything we want doesn’t mean Yah’s hand is slack. He is generous to provide all our needs.

Instead of focusing on worldly desires and wants focus on heavenly things by following Matthew 6:33. Seek first the Kingdom of Yah. Seek Him first by making your relationship with Him a priority. When you do this you will truly become content with just your needs being met.

Make prayer the first thing you do in the morning and the last thing you do at night. Read you Bible every day and seek to understand Yah and His ways. Turn away from sin and all things that displease Him and strive to live a holy life according to His Word. Let His presence and y’all’s relationship satisfy you to the fullest and become all you need. He truly is enough.

Let’s pray. Dear Heavenly Father, we come to you right now in Yahushua name and we give you the glory the praise and the honor. We want to repent for every time we have been ungrateful for you providing our needs. We repent being resentful and not acknowledging how you have taken care of us so far.

Please help us to be content with your provision. Please help us to be satisfied with your presence alone. Please help us to focus on your kingdom and not our earthly wants. Help us to set our focus on how we can live holy and how we can prepare for eternal life. Help us to be content in all things and trust that You are working everything out for our good.

Thank you for always being with us and ordering our steps in your word. Thank you for being everything we need at all times and in all things. Please give us a peace that surpasses all understanding concerning our circumstances. May your will be done and your way be had at all times. In Yahushua name amen.

Thank you for reading. I pray this encouraged you. Consider sharing this with someone else who may need encouragement in this area. Remember faith is not just something you hear, it’s something you live. I love you with the love of Christ.
